Since pretty much all of the current Swing Cats officers are graduating or moving away after this semester it's time to pass the torch onto the next amazing group of people! We held elections last night and we are super excited to announce that our new official officers starting next semester will be:

505 Stomp

The Groovie Movie

Let me put a big shout out to Neil and Fancy for an amazing workshop this past weekend! Also a big thank you for all the awesome attendees we had! I know I had a blast and learned so much, if you were there you might have heard Neil mentioning some of his favorite youtube video clips, including "The Groovie Movie" so I thought I'd make it easy on everybody and post it up here to share, it's super duper cute and even has the quick step they taught during their lesson in it if you need a refresher!

Warm up @ 9:30am for free!

Beginning Lindy Hop - "Building Connections"
Perfect for beginning Lindy Hoppers, this class has been designed to help students build better connections with their partners. Neil and Fancy will teach key concepts in leading and following Lindy Hop that will engage each students ability to communicate on the dance floor.

11am
"Charleston Chews"
A class that builds on the fundamentals of Charleston and its relation to Lindy Hop. Maybe we'll even discuss Newton's laws of motion.

LUNCH 12-1

1pm
"Adventures in the Groove"
This acclaimed Lindy Hop improvisation class will melt the icy shield around your heart. Inspired by theatrical improvisational legends and the goofiness of the Groovie Movie, Neil and Fancy have got many secrets that they won't spoil in this blurb. The only way to learn them is to show up!

2pm
Style - "Putting it Together"
What is style? Let's ask the basic questions and start working on the answers together!


THE PRICE (IT'S CRAZY CHEAP):
We want to make this as cheap and easy for everyone to attend as possible. This is why prices are so awesome!
PRICES
$10 per lesson or $30 for all 4 lessons

If you paid for a Swing Cats membership for a year, semester or for a full month (February or March) then your prices are the same as our classes,
$5 per lesson or $15 for all 4 lessons

Saturday night is Swing Dancing at Armory Park with a live big band but the entrance charge of $15 is not included in the price for the workshop.

ABOUT NEIL AND FANCY:



Hailing from East Los Angeles, Neil Figuracion began studying theater and movement while at UC Santa Barbara. He discovered Lindy Hop by accident and nothing has been the same since. He has learned from international champions and has put in his time with the old-timers in Southern California. Neil has been a formative member of the Los Angeles Lindy Hop scene since the late twentieth century. He has taught Lindy Hop on both coasts and many parts in between and someday may teach swing on the moon! Neil is also one of the innovators behind the Twister Yoga craze and plans to knit a J.R. "Bob" Dobbs sweater some time in the next decade.

Frances “Fancy” Dougherty was born and raised in Van Nuys, California, and enjoys guitars, foreign languages, bubbles and a great swing out. In her dancing career, she has performed with bands such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Captain Jeffrey and his Musical Chumbuckets. She has also been featured in recent productions such as Lee Ann Rimes’ grammy nominated music video “Swingin,” and Paula Abdul’s ‘Live To Dance’ show. Competitively, she has carved her place in the scene with wins in fast lindy and the Camp Hollywood Collegiate Shag Championships. Her other talents as an Olympic sleeper, criminal mastermind and aquatic singer are currently on hold, as lindy hop has stolen her heart.

Together, Neil and Fancy teach the LindyGroove Technique Class in Pasadena, CA. Their partnership is much like that fateful night when the Flying Graysons were shot and Batman met Robin.
